It was Rosa bracteata JC Wendl. the first species to be planted on February 16th 1991, a few days before the official opening of the Botanical Garden. To this day there are numerous specimens of Rosa bracteata marking the northern border of the Garden along St. Catherine street..
The ‘collection of roses’ ishoused in the upper part of the Botanical Garden and it’s one of the first thematic collections realized thirty years ago; it consisted of over two hundred specimens belonging to different sections of the genus Rosa, each of which was represented by one or more botanical species and their natural or artificial hybrids. Today the collection needs a recovery intervention as it is experiencing poor conditions due to the pedologic condition of the area.
For this reason, a project was ideated in order to realize a path dedicated to the evolution of the genus and focused on historical, cultural and aesthetic values. Visitors will be able to walk among wonderful specimens, colors and scents, through an utopian trip recalling the history of the Rosa.
With this in mind, the initiative ‘The Rose project, The Queen Flower’ was born as a result of a collaboration between the Botanical Garden of the Tuscia University, The Department DAFNE, The Rose Garden of the Rome Council, the nursery Michelini of Viterbo, and the Self Garden Company of Aprilia (Latina).
